Sunset at John Hancock Center Chicago- July 27th 8:13 PM (sun and clouds uncooperative)
post by Joe Pokfika
Each New Year's Eve, I've recommitted to the daily observation of the sunrise and sunset. The original premise- that it is possible to affirm our connection to one another and to the natural world through participation in a shared, elemental experience hasn't changed. As each new year dawns, I like to come up with a different way to invite others to join the project. 2016 is a leap year, as was 2008 when the project began. It seems mildly auspicious and a good excuse to propose something major.

Sunset from the top of the world
Sunset 8:55 PM. July 20, 2016
Lake Manasarovar, Tibet
from Barbara Held:
I wanted to send you a special photo of sunset at Lake Manasarovar, a sacred pilgrimage spot in Tibet. This was just before we did a fire ceremony … an incredibly moving moment on this big adventure!

July Challenge
Many thanks to my niece, Hannah for this month's challenge- ODE TO THE SUN.
How many things can you do at once?
Follow the sun up or down as it crosses the horizon, make some noise and document it at the same time?
Share here, on Facebook and/or with friends when you are done!

pin the tail on the donkey
Sunset 8:58. July 3, 2016
Buffalo, NY
It's always very fun and challenging to try and figure out where you are and what time it is on the earth below from the middle of nowhere in the sky. I look at the map on the seat back video and then lookup the sunset/rise time over the nearest city. This time it looked like Buffalo, NY at 8:58.
